The disaster Management centre states that 619 people belonging to 183 families have been displaced due to adverse weather.

Majority of the displaced are reported from the Vavuniya district.

Meanwhile 1058 people are adversely affected due to incklenet weather.

Deputy Director of the disaster management centre Pradeep Kodipillai elaborating further had this to say....

Meanwhile, many sluice gates have reached spill over level.

The irrigation department states that the sluice gates of the Veheragala reservoir have been opened due the heavy downpour experienced in the Monaragala District.

Director of the water management unit of the irrigation department Janaki Meegasthanne speaking to our news team had this to say....

Meteorologist in charge Pabodini Karunapala told our news team that heavy rains with strong winds could be expected in certain areas in the Western, North-Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uuva Provinces.

The Meteorology Department further appealed for action with greater caution in fishing and naval activities especially from Mannar to Galle across Matara to Pottuvil.
