Amnesty International says that it welcomes the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights’ repeated call for an independent and credible international investigation into alleged violations of international law in Sri Lanka.

Amnesty international says that a report made public by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights makes clear that Sri Lanka has a considerable amount of work to do when it comes to securing justice, reconciliation and resumption of livelihoods in the aftermath of the countries protracted armed conflict.

It also suggests that Sri Lanka may be unwilling to do that work.

Sri Lanka’s recent steps toward investigating allegations of serious violations of human rights were described as “inconclusive” and lacking “the independence and impartiality required to inspire confidence.”

Amnesty International says it joins the High Commissioner in encouraging the Council to maintain and build on this momentum.

However against this backdrop the Patriotic National front states that Sri Lanka should act fearless in the face of international pressure raised against the country during the upcoming United Nations Human Rights Council Session.

Chairman of the PNF Gunadasa Amarasekara speaking to our news team expressed the following views in this regard.

Moreover Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella noted that the country remains prepared to address any & all accusations raised against the country during the UN Human Rights Council Session.
