A group of fishermen from Sri Lanka and India are believed to have clashed in Sri Lankan waters off Kalpitiya during the early hours today.

According to the Chairman of the Kalpitiya Fishing Trawlers Association Anton Rex, fishermen who sailed from Kalpitiya had radioed back that they had come under attack allegedly from a group of Indian fishermen within Sri Lankan maritime boundaries during the early hours today.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Navy spokesman Kosala stated that the navy had been alerted regarding the matter, but when the navy had arrived at the scene the matter had been defused amicably.
