25 Myanmar nationals who were rescued while stranded in the Eastern seas have been handed over to the custody of the Galle Harbour Police today.

 

The group which were handed over to police today had been receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital until this morning.

According to the Deputy Director of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Dr. Chandima Sirithunga only 7 Myanmar nationals continue to receive treatment at the hospital, while their condition is said to be stable.

The Myanmar nationals who were rescued by the Sri Lankan navy while adrift in the sea had been in a critical state when they were located.

According to the latest revelations a group of 130 Myanmar nationals had set sail for Australia by sea in three separate crafts.

Police spokesman SSP Prishaantha Jayakody said that information had been received to the effect that 98 Myanmarians had been thrown into the sea since they had died due to not taking any food.
