No ministers for the UNHRC sessions;foreign affairs Ministry confirms

The Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that Government  Ministers would not participate in the Human Rights Commission session held in Geneva in March.

Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunatilake Amunugama told our news team that only Government officers would participate in the session this time.

The Secretary said that staff of the Defence Ministry, Attorney General's Department, and Foreign Affairs Ministry would thus participate in the session.

Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunatilake Amunugama said further that the Government was prepared to successfully face any resolution moved at the session against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile co-convenor of the Platform for Freedom Dr. Nimalkaa Fernando said that a powerful resolution should be brought forward against Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Commission session this time.

That was at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday.

The JHU says that this statement is statement against the country.

JHU national organiser Nishaantha Sri Warnasinghe expressing his views with regard to this stated as follows:

Meanwhile Russia has said that it would provide the support necessary for defeating the resolutions put forward against Sri Lanka  by western countries.

Russian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Alexander Karchaachaa said so when he met Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne yesterday.
