The 22nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council which commenced at 1.30 pm this afternoon local time is currently underway in Geneva.

Speaking here the United Kingdom today said that implementation of the recommendations set by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission would be a crucial step towards improving Sri Lanka’s human rights record.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Minister of State of the United Kingdom’s Foreign office said while addressing the meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva that Sri Lanka would continue to attract a huge amount of attention both in the UK and other countries,

She stated that the discussion in the UN Human Rights Council will be in the spirit of support towards reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

Moreover speaking with regards to Iran & Sri Lanka UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navaneethan Pillai added that the human rights situation in both countries was rapidly deteriorating.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe who will represent the Sri Lankan delegation in Geneva is due to address the High Level Session of the UN Human Rights Council session on the 27th of this month at 4.20 pm local time.

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Geneva Ravinatha Ariyasinghe is also amongst the delegation representing Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile India, the UK & EU is set to vote in favor of the American sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka which is due to be adopted during the 22nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council which is currently underway in Geneiva.
