Bus associations state that there will be an increase in bus fares from next week.
Speaking to our news team Secretary of the All Island Private Bus Companies Federation Anjana Priyanjith stated that the agreement was reached upon by the bus owners association and the authorities after discussions today.
Apart from the bus associations, the ministry of private transportation services and representatives of the ministry of finance were present at the discussions.

Meanwhile, sources stated that bus associations focused attention on increasing bus fare by approximately 6% to 7% and that the officials representing the ministry of finance had been positive towards the figure of 6%.
Therefore the new bus fare will take effect from either Monday or Tuesday next week.
Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Gamunu Wijeratne stated that there would be no change in the minimum bus fare.
