The Navy arrested 19 Indian fishermen engaged in fishing violating Sri Lanka’s maritime boundaries yesterday.
They were arrested while they were in the North-Western sea belt about nine kilometres from Uurumalai in Thalaimannar.
Reports say that in addition to this the navy apprehended four fishing trawlers.
The Navy took steps to hand over these fishermen to the Thalaimanner police last afternoon.
The Police Media Spokesman’s office said that the arrested fishermen were scheduled to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate’s Court today.
The Navy also apprehended 16 Indian fishermen along with three trawlers while they were engaged in fishing in the Sri Lankan sea belt.
