The Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs M. K. D. S. Gunawardena states that assaulting of Buddhist monks in Tamil Nadu is a planned conspiracy.
The deputy minister made this statement upon inquiry regarding instructions issued by the ministry to prevent issuing visas to Sri Lankan pilgrims traveling to Chennai.

Acting deputy Sri Lankan high commissioner in Chennai Amir Ajwad made a request to all Sri Lankans who are planning to go on pilgrimages to Chennai, to not do so till the situation in Tamil Nadu has abated.
He further stated that security measures have been taken to ensure that all Sri Lankan pilgrims that are currently engaging in pilgrimages in South India arrive in Sri Lanka unscathed.
