US Secretary of State John Kerry says the US sponsored resolution adopted at the UN Human Rights Council reaffirmed that Sri Lanka must take meaningful action on reconciliation and accountability in order to move forward.
He says the vote in the UN Human Rights Council encourages the Government of Sri Lanka to continue on the path toward lasting peace and prosperity.
Kerry noted that while some important progress has been made in Sri Lanka, there is much work still to be done.
Kerry says the United States stands ready to assist Sri Lanka and looks forward to continuing its engagement with the Government of Sri Lanka and strengthening its friendship with the Sri Lankan people.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michelle Sison stated that The USA supports vibrant democracy in Sri Lanka and the resolution at the UNHRC does not encourage the idea of a separate state.
Meanwhile international analyst Dr. Tudor Weerasinghe said that there were many factors manifested through the US resolution against Sri Lanka.
