Sunday, 31 March 2013 - 20:15

Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe states that prior to the polls in the North steps should be taken to establish independent commissions.

Addressing a group of party activist in Kalkuda, Wickremesinghe noted that these commissions should be established since opposing parties in the North which were engaged in politics were faced with serious concerns.

Moreover Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that although several suspects had been arrested in connection to the tense situation which erupted during a Tamil National alliance meeting on the 30th of last month, no subsequent course of action had been taken.

He also noted that if ordinary politics were heckled in the following manner, reasonable doubts could cast on polls being conducted in the North against such a backdrop.
