Junior health workers of National Hospital continues strike

The junior health workers of the Colombo National Hospital are continuing their strike for the 4th day today.

Joint chairman of the Health Service Trade Union Confederation Ravi Kumudesh stated that regardless of the influences faced, the junior health workers have decided to continue their trade union action till their demands have been met.

They have been engaging in this protest for 4 days regarding a decision taken to transfer a junior health worker.

This transfer was given to the former chairman of the All Ceylon Health Services Union D. S. Somarathne.

Joint chairman of the Health Service Trade Union Confederation Ravi Kumudesh had the following to say with regard to this strike.


However, a group of the hospital junior health workers are engaged in a protest near the hospital entrance.

Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Anura Senanayaka arrived at the scene this morning and informed them to move from the location.

Courts last afternoon ordered the strike launched by the All Island Health Employees Union to be called off.

The Maradana Police had informed the Maligakanda Court that this strike had caused hindrance to the general public.

The ministry of health states that the substitute employees who do not report to work today will be considered as those who have left employment.

Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka stated that a group of employees have initiated a strike against a decision taken by the state services commission to transfer a hospital employee.
