Verbal opinions clarified regarding electricity tariff amendment

Verbal opinions were obtained from members of the public today with regards to the proposed increase in electricity tariffs.


However various views were expressed in this regard by political party representatives in this regard.


Representing the Lanka Sama Samaja Party Keerthi Kariyawasam had this to say.




Attorney-at-law Kalyananda Thiranagama expressed these views on behalf of the Attorney’ Association to Promote Human Rights & Development.




Ashoka Abeygunawardhana representing the energy forum noted that the proposed hike was illegal.




Meanwhile Deputy General Secretary of the United National Party Dr. Jayalath Jayawardhana expressing his views in this regard noted that a parliamentary select committee should be appointed to probe the malpractices within the Ceylon Electricity Board.




Moreover Energy Specialist Dr. Thilak Siyambalapitiya had the following views to share in this regard.
