Topic of constitutional amendments gains momentum

The topic of constitutional amendments is being discussed in society widely concurrent to a new set of proposals submitted by the National Movement for a Just Society which calls for amendments to the current constitution.


Venerable Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thero, Chairman of the National Movement for a Just Society addressing a media briefing which was held in Colombo expressed the following views on the draft set of proposals compiled by a group of lawyers representing the movement.




When contacted in this regard UNP MP Ajith P. Perera expressed the following views in this regard.




However Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi added that the government was of the view that certain parts of the constitution should be amended, which according to him should be done based on the volition of the public.
