India states a fleet of Chinese nuclear submarines is making frequent forays into the Indian Ocean and that they have approached the Sri Lankan coast.

Quoting the Indian Navy, India Today stated that the ‘String of Pearls’ will become a reality sooner than expected.

The Indian Navy states that 22 unknown submarine contacts were detected by Indian sonar in the Indian Ocean

One contact with a suspected Chinese submarine took place just 90 kilometers from Indian soil in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Six contacts took place north-west of the Straits of Malacca, 13 south of Sri Lanka and two as far as the Arabian Sea.

However, the Sri Lankan Navy spokesperson stated that the navy cannot make an official statement regarding this.
