A report has been handed over to Indian Premier Dr. Manmohan Singh calling for the nullification of the proposed Sethu-samudram shipping canal project due to be implemented between Sri Lanka & India.

A committee was appointed by Dr. Manmohan Singh earlier under the aegis of senior scientist R.K. Pachori in order to study the Sethusamudram project.

This was in accordance to an order issued by the Indian Supreme Court.

According to the Pachori report the project if implemented would adversely affect the bio diversity of the Indian Ocean as well as the combined geography between Sri Lanka and India.
