Investigations commence into NGO which obtained blood from Rajarata

The Ministry of Health today informed that it would be conducting an immediate investigation into the incident in which a non governmental institution had obtained blood & urine samples from residents of Rajarata.

 

Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayeke speaking to our news team noted that several complaints had been received from the public in this regard.

 

A special report concerning the prevalent kidney disease in Rajarata, which was compiled by an expert panel, is due to be handed over to the parliamentary select committee of the Department of Agriculture tomorrow.

 

Against this backdrop area residents of Madawachchiya state that NGO’s have no part in obtaining samples of blood & urine from members of the public.

 

When contacted Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayeke expressed the following views to our news team.

 

 

The expert panel which conducted studies on the prevalent kidney disease in Rajarata recommended that a 10% tax be imported on agrochemicals which induce kidney disease.

 

Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhana stated that the government has proscribed the use of 3 verities of agro chemicals.

 

Addressing a media briefing held at the Weligama Urban Council Minister added that these varieties of agro chemicals had been proscribed from use based on recommendations submitted by the Pesticides Committee.

 

Minister Abeywardhana also noted that this decision had been ancillary influenced by the prevalent kidney disease currently spreading in the Rajarata area.
