Economic growth during 2012 at 6.4%

The Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal said Sri Lanka has recorded a 6.4 percent growth in gross domestic product for the year 2012.


The Central Bank said Despite the challenging global economic conditions, Sri Lanka's financial sector expanded and strengthened in 2012 supporting the growth momentum of the economy.


The monetary authority presenting the annual Financial System Stability Review for 2012 said despite the challenging global as well as domestic market conditions, the overall soundness of the financial sector improved with higher levels of capital and healthy earnings with enhanced supervisory and regulatory framework.
