US Ambassador to Sri Lankan Michelle J. Sisson states that repeated requests made by the international community asking Sri Lanka to uphold its reconciliation & accountability process in no way should be viewed as a threat.

Ambassador Michele Sison made these observations while addressing a media briefing which was held with the participation of foreign journalists yesterday.

She added that important steps in achieving real reconciliation had not begun since Colombo declared an end to the separatist war since May 2009.

Ambassador Sisson also warned that Sri Lanka could face a return to conflict unless it probed alleged war crimes & addressed grievances of its minority Tamil population.

She also noted that America’s attention had gone beyond the United Nations human Rights Council with concern to the human rights situation in the country.
