Seven tax amendment Acts were passed in parliament yesterday.
The Supreme Court informed that these Acts passed in parliament were in accordance with the constitution.
Out of these Acts, a vote was taken with regard to the second reading of the draft Tax Appeal Commission Amendment Act.
One hundred and five votes were received for and five against it.
DNA MP Sunil Handuneththi addressing parliament stated that the bettig and gambling act makes a joke out of people.
Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said through the news amendments to the betting and gambling act, 5 percent of the revenue from gambling will be levied as tax.
UNP MP Dr. Harsha De Silva also joined the debate.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said during the UNP regime they reduced the taxes levied on gamblers and increased the taxes levied on the general public.
