Information comes to light regarding gang posing as police who extort cash

Police have commenced investigations into a racket where unsuspecting individuals are intimidated with phone calls by individuals purportedly identifying themselves as police officers, who demand of the victims to pay up cash.

According to the Police Media Unit a large number of complaints have been received by authorities in this regard.

In the event of such an occurrence public are urged to contact the police on phone numbers 0112 4444 80- 0112 4444 81 or 0112 4444 82.

Moreover police caution the public to remain extra cautious during the festive season.

Police Media Spokesperson SP Buddhika Siriwardhana speaking to our news team expressed the following views in this regard.
