311 drunk drivers arrested

The Police Media Unit states that 10 persons have succumbed to their injuries due to road accidents which occurred during the past 48 hours.


It notes that these accidents had occurred in the areas of Kekirawa, Anuradhapura, Galle, Hanwella, Ahungalle, Kahatagasdigiliya & Gampaha.


Moreover 311 persons who had driven under the influence of alcohol have been arrested during special raids conducted by police.


According to the PMU these arrests were conducted during the past 48 hours.


It also noted that further raids would be conducted to arrest those who breach the law.


Meanwhile the National Hospital states that compared to last year the number of recorded accidents during this year have increased while it also notes that 480 persons have been admitted to hospital following various accidents.
