30 houses in Anuradhapura damaged due to gale force winds; heavy thunder showers today as well.

More than 30 houses were damaged yesterday due to gale force winds experienced in Anuradapura – Kahatagasdigiliya and Galen- Bidunu- wawe areas.


Showers or thundershowers will develop over most parts of the island during the afternoon or evening.


Met Department sources said fairly heavy rainfall is also likely in certain areas.


Showers can also be expected in the Eastern coastal areas and Hambantota district during the morning.


There may be temporary localized fairly strong winds during thundershowers.


Duty Meteorologist Pabodini Karunapala said the public are requested to take adequate precautions to minimise the damage caused by lightning.
