A fire brand protest from Balapitiya against the increased electricity tariff

The JVP has organized a fire brand protest at the Maharagama town this afternoon forcing the Government to reduce the increased electricity tariff.


JVP general secretary Tilwin Silva said that parallel to this a campaign for obtaining signatures for a public petition that begins from Colombo Fort on 24th instant has been organized.




Meanwhile a protest with lighted fire brands was staged in the Balapitiya town last night in protest against the increased electricity tariff.


This was organized by the UNP Balapitiya Divisional Councilors.


Divisional Councilor M. W. Senarat expressing his views on this occasion stated as follows:




However Power and Energy Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekera expressing his views to our news team yesterday said that a discussion for making an amendment in the new electricity tariff was scheduled to be held under the President’s patronage.
