Government dodged the issue - alleges UNP

The UNP held a special media briefing today at the parliament complex on the revised electricity tariffs.


UNP MP Ajith P Perera has this to say:




A government ally, the National Freedom Front also held a media briefing on the revised electricity tariffs. The party’s leader Minister Wimal Weerawansa had this to say:




Meanwhile the Jathika Hela Urumaya has issued a special communiqué over the revised electricity tariffs.


The party stated that the consumer should not be held responsible for the rising production costs but the officials and the policy makers should.


President of the All Ceylon Trade Union Federation has also held a media conference to stage their protest against the revised electricity tariffs.


Its president and North Central Provincial Council member Wasantha Samarasinghe had this to say.




Extended protests were held today too against the increase of the electricity tariffs.


Opposition members of the Central Provincial Council staged a protest in the premises of the Council today.


Central Provincial Council Opposition Leader K.K. Piyadasa had this to say.




Meanwhile members of several Pradeshiya Sabhas also staged protests against the increased electricity bill.


Opposition members of the Elpitiya and Horana Pradeshiya Sabha’s wore black belts and lit candles and kerosene lamps in protest of the electricity bill hike
