2 deaths at Castle street hospital; ICU is still closed.

Another patient receiving treatment for Influenza-A virus at the Intensive Care Unit of the Castle Street Hospital for Women died.


The death toll due to the virus attack at the Hospital has now gone up to two.


The Ministry of Health stated that Influenza-A is a general virus but when it infects a pregnant mother in labour, her condition could develop to complicating situation.


However the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital will be kept closed and steps are now being taken to sterilize the Unit.


Director of the Castle Street Hospital for Women Dr.W.K.Wickramasinghe said despite the incident at the ICU, patients are admitted to other wards as usual.
