A windstorm damages 49 houses in Kurunegala - Rain and wind to be continued today throughout the island.

176 residents in the Kurunegala Divisional Secretariat division were displaced after strong winds hit in the area yesterday evening.

 

The Centre for Disaster Mitigation stated that two houses were destroyed and 47 damaged by the windstorm.

 

Meanwhile 4 sluice gates of Udawalawa reservoir have been opened by 18 inches each after heavy rain lashed in its catchment areas.

 

Department of Meteorology states that strong wind and thunder showers could be developed throughout the island in the evening.

 

Duty Officer of the Meteorological Department, Anusha Warnakulasuriya has this to say.
