The Patriotic National Movement has stamped the Commonwealth Heads of Government which is due to be held in Colombo this November a travesty of dialogues.

 

Secretary of the movement Dr. Wasantha Banadara expressing his views in this regard noted that convening such a summit in Sri Lanka was a futile act.

 

However General Secretary of the Commonwealth Kamalesh Sharma has confirmed that the CHOGAM summit would be definitively held in Sri Lanka this November.

 

Representatives of several member states including Canada however have advocated member states to boycott the summit which is due to be held in Sri Lanka this November.

  

Against this backdrop Australian Minister of External Affairs Bob Carr yesterday stated that his country would not boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka this November.

 

Addressing the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group held in London yesterday Carr stressed that it was unproductive to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which is due to be held in the island later this year.

 

However a former premier of Australia Malcolm Fraiser recently engaged in a propaganda meeting urging member nations of CHOGAM to boycott the meeting.

 

Engaging in a phone conversation with Australia’s ABC News, Carr however added that Commonwealth Nations should urge Sri Lanka to pursue its reconciliation process.

 

According to Australin Minister of External affairs Bob Carr all 55 Commonwealth member nations accept Canada have not threatened to pull out of CHOGAM.
