Sri Lankan Airlines to spend 315 Billion to purchase new aircraft

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved 2.5 Billion US Dollars in order to purchase new aircraft for Sri Lankan Airlines.


The allocation - 315 Billion in Rupees will be spent to purchase 10 air bus aircraft including 6 A 330’s and 4 A-350’s.


Funds have also been allocated for the purchase of other spare parts for the aircraft for the next 10 years.


Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation T R C Ruberu, explained the need for the purchase of new aircraft.




Sri Lankan airlines reported an operational loss of 20 Billion Rupees last year.


We inquired from the Secretary to the Ministry regarding the justification of aircraft at a time Sri Lankan airlines had incurred such a loss.
