Protest in Valikaman

Residents of Valikamam North staged a protest today urging the authorities to return their lands which were taken over for security purposes during the war.


The protesters gathered in front of the Valikamam Divisional Secretariate said that their day-to-date life was severely affected after they vacated their households on the orders of the defence authorities.


Later parliamentarians of TNA Mawei Senadhiraja, M.A.Sumandhiran and S.Sridharan joined the protesters.


Chairman of the Valikamam North Pradeshiya Sabha Somasundaram Suhirdan has this to say:




When our news team contacted Land and Land Development Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, he said that over 12,000 acres of land that had been temporarily used by the security forces already been returned to their owners.


He also said that steps will be taken to return the balance to their owners after the lands are properly cleared of the security requirements.
