All preparations for May day completed; 20 May Day rallies & 17 processions

Major political parties and several organisations have made all arrangements to celebrate May Day tomorrow.

 

Our news team contacted secretaries of these parties including the secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

 

SLFP General Secretary Minister Maithreepala Sirisena said the government’s May Day rally on the theme of ‘The wave of May, the drive of development’ will begin at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre and parade to Campbell Park.

 

During a press briefing held today Minister Sirisena has this to say.

 

 

UNP has organised 3 different programmes to mark the May Day this year.

 

The first programme will be presided by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at Sirikotha party headquarters and representatives of several party organisations will attend the event.

 

The second programme themed ‘The protest of the Opposition’ will be held at Maligapitiya in Kurunegala.

 

The third rally for the Young Estate Workers will be led by UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake in Badulla.

 

Addressing the media, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake had this to say.

 

 

Meanwhile JVP will start its parade from the S de S Jayasinghe sports ground in Dehiwala and hold its rally at the BRC grounds in Colombo.

 

JVP General Secretary Tylvin Silva has this to say.

 

 

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance procession will start from the Nelum Pokuna Mawatha at 12.00 noon and will proceed through Horton Place, D.S. Senanayake junction and arrive at Campbell Park via Baseline Road Borella.

 

The rally will start at 3.00 pm under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

 

The National Freedom Front will start their procession from near the St. Johns College Dematagoda and will hold the rally at P.G. Sirisena Grounds.

 

The JVP will start their procession from the S.De.S.Jayasinghe grounds and will hold their rally at BRC Grounds in Dehiwela.

  

The police, meanwhile, have finalized all arrangements to ensure the conduct of May Day rallies smoothly.  

 

Senior DIG Anura Senanayake said 21 May Day rallies and processions have been organized in Colombo.

 

Six thousand police officers will be deployed to ensure security and control traffic.
