Court issues notice on Shirani Bandaranayke, Wijitha Herath & R. Sambanthan

The Supreme Court today issued notice on former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, TNA leader R. Sampanthan and JVP MP Vijitha Herath to appear before court on the 29th of May over an appeal filed by the Attorney General.

In his appeal the Attorney General had challenged the Court of Appeal order against the Parliamentary Select Committee which conducted Dr. Bandaranayake’s impeachment.

In his case the Attorney General argued that according to Parliamentary Privileges Act, the Court cannot issue an order against Parliament.
