May Day supporter killed in bus accident, A May Day stage too collapsed

The victim was traveling in the same bus to participate in the CWC rally to be held in Nuwara Eliya had climbed to the roof of the moving bus to adjust a party flag when he lost his footing and fell.


The body of the deceased, a 35-year-old resident of Dayagama is now lying at the Lindula Hospital.


There were several untoward incidents of this nature reported in Sri Lanka’s May Day history.


The major among them was the assassination of President Ranasinghe Premadasa by an LTTE suicide bomber while the late President was parading in Colombo on a May Day like today and thus the working class in this country will remember the name of late President Ranasinghe Premadasa forever.


Even after 20 years of his premature death, a commemoration ceremony to mark his death anniversary was held near the Premadasa Statue at Hulftsdorp in Colombo this morning.


Delivering the commemoration speech at the ceremony in Colombo, Dr.Dayan Jayatilleke expressed his views on Premadasa policies.
