Japanese deputy prime minister to the island.

Deputy Prime Minister of Japan, Taro Aso, arrived in Sri lanka yesterday, as a follow up to the visit of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Tokyo in March this year.


Parliamentary Senior Vice Minister of Finance uko Obuchi also arrived in Sri Lanka with the Deputy premier.


During their visit Aso and Obuchi will call on President Rajapaksa to discuss bilateral relations with a view to further strengthening the long-standing ties between the two countries and will also visit the Colombo Port and Colombo Dockyard.


The Japanese Government provided financial assistance for upgrading and expansion of the Colombo Port.
