The Disaster Management Centre urges the public to remain cautious in order to prevent accidents caused by lightning strikes as a high risk of lightning prevails during the approaching weeks.

Heavy rains with strong winds have been forecast for most parts of the island until the latter part of this month.

The current inter-monsoon weather pattern is expected to end while showers are expected during early hours.

Duty meteorologists Channa Rodrigo elaborating further said there is a turbulent situation in the atmosphere.

Meanwhile, The Disaster Management Centre said Some 479 families have been affected by flash floods in the Gampaha District.


According to the DMC, 81 families have been provided with accommodation in four evacuation centres by now.
