Police commence investigations to nab mastermind of gold racketeers

Police Anti-Vice Squad of the Western North Division has begun a special investigation on a series of massive rackets that has allegedly collected money from unsuspecting individuals promising them to get sovereign gold from the reserves of the Treasury.


Police recently arrested 11 members of a similar group while they were deceiving people to get them 100kg of sovereign gold worth of 500 million rupees.


Among the suspects are the wife of a vice captain of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and a retired ASP.


DIG Western North Police Division Vas Gunewardana said that the police has launched a special operation to arrest the main suspect of the scam and several of his accomplices. Police also warn the public to be cautious as more similar trickster groups are operating throughout the island.


Hiru TV telecast a footage yesterday of police arresting the suspects of this scam. Expect another telecast of the full operation on Hiru TV during its news bulletin at 7pm tonight.
