Showers to persist throughout May; Gampaha effected by inclement weather

Current Intern monsoon weather pattern would continue right throughout the month of May.

Duty Officer of the Department of Meteorology Anusha Varnasuriya said that thunderstorms could be expected in the evening.

She also said thundershowers will develop throughout the island today evening as well warns the public to be cautious of thunderstorm during heavy showers.


Meanwhile Disaster Management Center stated that 2,212 persons of 479 families in the Gampaha District were displaced due to extreme weather condition during the last few days.


Deputy Media Director of the Disaster Management Centre Sarath Lal Kumara said that several low line areas in the district are still underwater, and the supply of relief to the affected has already been started.
