The Supreme Court of India today gave the green light to proceed with the commissioning of the Kunadankulam Power plant.

Issuing the order, court stated that India was to receive a fringe of economic benefits through the construction of the plant.

Court was also of the opinion that the plant conformed to the relevant industrial safety standards thus posing no hazard.

Last week a court order was issued temporarily halting construction work on the Kundankulam nuclear power plant.

Against this back drop anti-Kundankulam lobbyists still continue to proceed with their protests against the construction of the plant.

Spearheading local voices of dissent was former Minister of Power & Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka.
