The new electricity tariff prepared by the CEB has been rejected by the Public Utilities Commission, according to reports reaching our news team.

A high official of the Public Utilities Commission told our news team that the Commission has informed the CEB to prepare the tariff anew.

Earlier the Public Utilities Commission had recommended an increase of 33 percent on bills from 30 to 60 units. The Commission has stated that it rejected the new tariffs as the CEB has completely ignored the Commission recommendations on tariffs upto 60 units.

Meanwhile addressing a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday, the Convener of the Public Movement against the Increased Electricity Tariffs Saman Ratnapriya said despite the President’s pledge, the charges on bills upto 60 units are gone up by 20 percent.
