GMOA ready to protest against selling Medical degrees at State Universities

The GMOA said today that it will also launch protest campaigns against the move to enroll students to local medical faculties for paid courses.

Students of the medical faculties in Colombo, Raja Rata, Sri Jayawardanapura, Kelaniya, Ruhuna and Peradeniya staged protests today against the enrollment of students to medical colleges for paid courses.

According to a new circular, local and foreign students are allowed to enter the medical colleges by paying 7.5 million rupees.

The circular will thus permit students without required qualifications to follow a medical degree in State Universities provided they can afford the course fee.

During the protest today, President of the Students Union of Colombo Medical Faculty, Yasitha Weerasinghe has this to say.

Students of Raja Rata University staged another protest in front of the Medical Faculty at Saliyapura. The Editor of the Rajarata Medical Students Association Ranjan Madusanka has this to say.

Meanwhile the GMOA during a media briefing held in Colombo today blamed the authorities for selling the medical degree. Central Committee member of the GMOA Dr.Naleen de Herath has this to say.
