Further impact of the Mahasen Cyclone; speed of the wind over sea and land increases.

The Meteorology Department said the Cyclonic Storm Mahasena in the South-east Bay of Bengal was centered about 700 kilo meters to the East of Mullaitivu as at yesterday noon and added the storm will intensify further and most likely move in the North-westward direction.


As such the coastal areas extending from Jaffna to Hambantota via Batticaloa will experience strong winds, rough conditions and intermittent rain.


Under the influence of the system fairly strong South-westerly winds can be expected over Sri Lanka and the neighbourhood.


It requested the Navy and fisher folk not venture into the seas on the East coast.


Duty meteorologist Pabodini Karunapala elaborating further had this to say.......
