Army media spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya stated that approximately 11,000 individuals from all branches of the military will take part in the victory day procession today.

 

Army media spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya expressed the following views regarding the procession.

 


 

Meanwhile, the police department stated that a special traffic plan will be in effect in lieu of the victory day procession.

 

Accordingly all entry roads to Colombo have been closed since 5am till the victory procession and celebration concludes.

 

Thus entry to the COT junction in Fort from the Ceynor junction, entry to Fort from the COT junction, entry to Chaithya road from near the Colombo port entrance, and entrance towards Galle Face Roundabout from Kolpetty will be temporarily suspended.

 

Similarly, entry to the Galle road from the St. Michael Roundabout, entry towards the Regal roundabout from the Slave Island roundabout and entry to D. R. Wijeywardena road from the Gamini Roundabout will also be temporarily suspended.

 

Meanwhile, a National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony will take place at the Parliamentary grounds this afternoon.

 

According to the police department, in lieu of the ceremony the Polduwa junction, Palam Thuna roundabout, Pelawatta junction, Kimbulawala junction and all entry roads towards  the Parliamentary complex will be temporarily closed from 2pm till the conclusion of the ceremony.
