Trade Unions of the Opposition give time to the government till midnight

Trade unions taking part in tomorrows token strike state that all preparatory measures are underway to make the strike a success.

 

According to the Joint trade union Alliance 941 trade unions as well as 15 political parties will take part in tomorrow’s strike.

 

General secretary of the Jathika Sewaka Sangamaya Sirinal De Mel speaking during a media briefing convened jointly by the JVP & UNP expressed the following views with regards to tomorrows strike.

 

 

Chairman of the Self employees federation Colombo Municipal Councilor Mahinda Kahandagama expressed these views during yet another media briefing which was convened in Colombo this afternoon.

 

 

Meanwhile Chairman of the National Trade Union Centre Former JVP MP K.D. Lal Kantha speaking in Colombo today noted that the government has plenty of time still to reduce the price of electricity tariffs.

 

 

Ariyadasa Pathirana, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Independent Workers Union’s Harbor branch however noted that tomorrows strike was aimed at destabilizing the government.

 

 

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe expressing his views with regards to tomorrow’s token strike noted that the United National Party would extend its fullest support to make it a success.

 

 

Moreover deputy Minister Earl Gunasekara speaking yesterday noted that even if a single state owned institution was shut down tomorrow as a result of the planned strike, he would step down from his post.
