The police special task force had arrested 6 suspects last night who were in possession of 6 kilograms of sandalwood and 14 thousand kilograms of Gairi – Nopas Walla tree parts commonly known as Walla – Patta, a tree indigenous to Sri Lanka.

 

The police stated that the plants which were being prepared for export with a value of 200 million rupees were confiscated at a housing complex in Kolonnawa.

 

Two of the suspects are Indian nationals and the other 4 are Sri Lankan nationals.

 

The suspects were planning to illegally export the plants to India and France and the raid was carried out based on information received by the Commander of the Special Task Force DIG R. W. M. C. Ranawana.
