The Ceylon Electricity Board General Manager and the Public Utilities Commission Chairman have been notified to appear before the Supreme Court on next 18th.
That was when a fundamental rights petition against the new electricity tariff amendment was taken up for hearing before the Supreme Court yesterday.
Public Utilities Commission Chairman Dr. Jayathissa Costha and CEB GM Nihal Wickremasinghe had been named as respondents in this case.
The Lawyers’ Association for Human Rights and Development had filed this petition earlier requesting that the electricity tariff amendment be revoked.
Through this petition the association had pointed out that the method of increasing the electricity fare was unacceptable.
