The officials of the Colombo Municipal Council stated that nearly one million people would travel to the city to visit grand Vesak this week.
Urban Commissioner Badrani Jayawardana said that all public amenities have already been put in place for the benefit of the visitors.
She said the number of Vesak pandals this year is comparatively lower than the previous year.
However there are 10 pandals and 7 Vesak Zones in the city.
Police Media Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardana said that special security arrangements are now in place to ensure safety of the visitors to Colombo during Vesak Week.
Vice Chairman L.A. Wimalaratne stated that a special Vesak service has been introduced by the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
Meanwhile a special train service to cater to the Vesak crowd has been introduced by the Sri Lanka Railways.
Director of Railway Transport L.A.R. Ratnayake had this to say.
