Funeral of Indarathana Thero to be held tomorrow; Sinhala Rawaya in protest

The Sinhala Rawaya Organization has urged authorities to have all cattle slaughter houses located throughout the island shut until the final rights of Venerable Bowaththe Indaranatha Thero are performed.

 

National Organizer of the Sinhala Rawaya Organisation Venerable Puliyadde Sudhamma Thero speaking in this regard noted that the request in this regard has already been tendered to officials.

 


 

Moreover Venerable Puliyadde Sudhamma Thero, the National Organizer of the Sinhala Rawaya Organization states that his Organization opposes holding the

funeral of Venerable Bowaththe Indarathana Thero tomorrow, a decision which according to him has been influenced by several police officers as well as monks.

 


 

When inquired from Senior DIG of Rathnapura, Prishantha Jayakodi regarding these allegations he noted that the final decision regarding the funeral arrangements had been drawn by the funeral committee.

 

According to Senior DIG Prishantha Jayakodi police have only been vested with security responsibilities.

 

Meanwhile Jagath Ananda the Treasurer of the Sri Sugatha Vihara in Kahawaththa states that the cremation of Venerable Bowaththe Indarathana Thero would be carried out within 48 hours, consistent to a court order which was delivered yesterday.

 

However during a function which was held in Alawathugoda-Kandy today Minister of Mass Media & Information Keheliya Rambukwella expressed the following views with regards to the conduct of a Buddhist monk & the sustainability of a government.
