Former Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian & Leader of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization N.K. Sivajilingam states that if the 13th amendment to the constitution is abolished the TNA would boycott parliament.

Speaking to our news team Sivajilingam stated that if the TNA decides to boycott parliament the government would be effected as a result.

Speaking further he noted that he opposes the elimination of the provincial council system which has been brought forward as a private members motion by the JHU.

Meanwhile the views of Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe, who is the Media Spokesperson of the JHU were sought in this regard.

Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK Leader Muthuvel Karunanidhi told his party paper Murasoli that the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution which was passed with Indian intervention to delegate more powers to the Provinces has been under threat.

In a special statement to Murasoli, Karunanidhi quoted Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid as saying to Sri Lanka last week that the clauses established in the 13th Amendment should not be weakened.

He further stated that it was suspicious whether Northern Provincial Council elections would be held in the island as scheduled this year.
