UNP Western Provincial Councilor Ajith Mannapperuma, who is next in the list, to be picked to fill in the vacant parliament seat after the death of Gampaha District UNP MP Dr.Jayalath Jayawardana.

Mannapperuma was a former Mayor of Gampha, and he obtained 44 thousand 812 votes in the last General Election.

Dr.Jayalath Jayawardana and a former minister in the UNP regime who was receiving treatment in a hospital in Singapore died this morning.

Dr.Jayawardana made his debut in parliament as an MP for Gampaha district in 1994.

Later he won Ja Ela electorate in the General Election 2001 and became the Reconstruction and Resettlement Minister of the UNP government in 2002 – 2004.

Meanwhile UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during a meeting at Sirikotha today offered condolences on the death of late Dr.Jayawardana.

Sirikotha Officials stated that the funeral arrangement will be announced after the body of late Dr.Jayawardana is brought home.
