Lengthy discussions were held at the Government Party Leaders’ meeting held yesterday with regard to bringing in relevant provisions for preventing the chances of combination of two provincial councils.
Government sources said that at this meeting discussion was also held with regard to removing the provisions which emphasize the need for obtaining the approval of all provincial councils when bringing in draft Acts of national importance.
While the President has said that the Northern Provincial Council election would be held next September, extensive discussion was held at the meeting with regard to the importance of preventing the combination two provincial councils.
Similarly Government sources said that attention was drawn at this meeting with regard to passing Bills by a simple majority in parliament and implementing them if a particular Provincial Council objected to passing them at the provincial council.
Attention was also drawn on obtaining court advice with regard to police and land powers.
